Matt did his undergraduate work at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. "Unfortunately," he says, "a cappella was the one thing I always wanted to do as an undergrad but never seemed to have time for." At USC, Matt was a dual-degree Law and Communications Management graduate student. As such, he was doubly thrilled to be able to sing with the VoCals in order to not have to think about law all the time. When he isn't sleeping through a treatise on ejusdem generis, damnum absque injuria or some other light reading, he enjoys music, movies, computers, volleyball, swimming, and baseball. Matt also plays six instruments: guitar, tenor sax, piano, bass guitar, trumpet, and drums, "although I'd be better off if I stuck to just one instrument," he says. "I don't play any one of them as well as I'd like!" Since leaving the VoCals, Matt has continued to be heavily involved in music. Along with fellow VoCals alum (and wife!) Ann Lyles MacPhail, Carmel Heckel and Stacy Burcham, Matt is a member of News At Eleven, a Christian music group that originated at the USC Catholic Center. The group recently released their second album, "Here Till The End".
"Oh, we have to do that...that'd be HUGE!"
