From an early age it was clear that Emily was talented. So, in third grade, Emily auditioned for the first time for the SoCal VoCals. She sang "Bye Bye Birdie". She wore a purple jump-suit and even upped the ante on all the other, older, VoCal hopefuls bye throwing in a little dance routine; Charleston, Lindyhop, the Twist, you know, the works. Despite the VoCals excitement about Emily, USC's rules said the group must be comprised of only current USC students, which Emily was not. She would have to wait another 10 years to audition again. But Emily was patient. When she was accepted to USC in 2006, the first thing she did was audition for the VoCals. Her act had grown significantly; this time she wore a yellow jump-suit. Needless to say, the VoCals jumped at the opportunity to have Emily in the group.
